We’ve planted 10,000 trees

We’re extremely excited and proud to share that we’ve planted over 10,000 trees through our RED2GREEN initiative.
“RED2GREEN is a life changing initiative that has been created and led by the staff at REDBOX in order to care for and support communities that need a helping hand, whilst also having a positive impact on the environment. Our creative team continues to work closely with our customers to help them contribute and we’re incredibly proud of the difference that has been made in the planting of over 10,000 trees. Here’s to our next milestone as we’ve set a target of planting 100,000 trees.”

Why plant trees?
Because they change lives. They provide food and forage for animals. They increase agricultural yields, improve water infiltration and aquifer recharge, and protect soils from wind and water erosion.

Through our partnership with the Green Earth Appeal, we help to create sustainable and productive communities throughout the developing world.
By financing the teaching and empowering of rural groups to grow sustainable, renewable forests for agriculture and food, water collection and filtration and animal habitat. This is achieved through the provision of education and teams of dedicated individuals in the field who train, support and facilitate hope for members of communities to build better lives for themselves.

The impact that agroforestry systems can achieve are as follows:
Ecosystem synergies that allow the entire intercropping system to produce higher yields protects the fragile ecosystem with semi-arid and complex soil conditions in Kigoma, which cannot support typical monoculture palm oil

  • Large quantities of biomass for mulching and moisture
  • Increased farmer incomes and food security
  • Adaptation to climate change and resilience to rainfall variability, including drought and flooding: reducing the effects of climate-induced hydro-meteorological events by transforming dryland into a sponge that can absorb and channel rainwater into the ground during heavy rain events and release green water during months of
  • CO2 sequestration-intensive farmland
  • Improved soil fertility through intensive pruning, mulching, use of manure and the introduction of nitrogen-fixing (leguminous) cover
  • Adopted organic practices – no pesticides or chemical

HRH The Countess of Wessex GCVO said in a letter to all winners: “I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your positive contributions, congratulate you on your recognition as a UK Business Hero and wish you every success in your endeavours in the weeks and months ahead as we look to the recovery of our country.” READ FULL LETTER HERE The awards, that recognise businesses for their hard work, have come at a great time to give our team a morale boost and it is a credit to each and every one of them that has continued in the face of adversity with a smile, plenty of laughs and some occasional tears, they continue to work incredibly hard for each other, our customers, the community and the environment. Since the latest government announcement to work from home where possible, many businesses have been worried about returning to square one. Our team have embraced the change and grabbed the opportunity presented to us. Our new home working brochure that gives back to Helen & Douglas House Children’s hospice is testament to that. Our business like many others has been effected by the coronavirus pandemic, but through the support of our people and pivoting our business to provide safer working services and products, we are continuing to trade our way through these strangest of times, but not everybody within our local and the broader community is fortunate enough to be able to make those changes. Charities are seeing donations fall and local community projects really need support that is proving harder and harder to come by. At REDBOX we decided that now more than ever we need to continue with our community support and charitable donations for those less fortunate and struggling due to the Covid-19 outbreak. We have worked with our chosen charity, Helen & Douglas house, who give palliative care to terminally ill children, to provide support during these difficult conditions. Our team each completed 2.6 miles of running or walking and raised over £1500.00 through the 2.6 marathon challenge, we also donated colouring pencils for hampers that were sent to families of the children that had to self-isolate. Part of our ongoing support is to donate 2% of any revenue generated from our “Home Working” furniture range. Looking after people’s mental health and wellbeing is more important than ever, especially when they are not getting to mix with their colleagues due to home working and keeping everyone safe. Our people are no exception and are the most important part of our business, so we organised weekly “Health & Wellbeing” webinars with Nick Hollis from Fitways Adventure and regular “Friday night Socials” with quizzes or just a good catch up for all our staff. With supporting a local Housing Association with house furniture and beds to help in the assistance of getting the homeless off the streets during lockdown to donating Coronavirus killing hand sanitiser to our local care home, we will continue to support our people and our community in every way we can, through the current exceptional times and beyond.
